A Closer, More Detailed Look At Jennifer Lopez’s Breathtaking Green Diamond Engagement Ring

When it comes to fine jewellery, Jennifer Lopez’s collection is on a par with Elizabeth Taylor’s – particularly when it comes to her engagement rings. The 53-year-old has worn a number of designs over the years (half a dozen, to be exact), but the stones chosen for her by her now-husband Ben Affleck are far and away the most discussed.

Take the pink Harry Winston diamond she received from the Oscar winner in 2002. “I looked at the ring, and I was like, ‘Oh my God,’” J.Lo told Diane Sawyer in a segment back in the early Noughties. “It was just – it’s the most magnificent thing.” Valued at an estimated $1 million at the time, the 6.10-carat stone inspired a trend for colored diamond rings – even impressing the likes of Barbra Streisand, a diamond fanatic.

J.Lo’s second engagement ring from Affleck is even rarer – with the central green diamond sourced by Ilan Portugali of Beverly Hills Diamonds. (Tamara Rahaminov and Nicol Goldfiner of Rahaminov Diamonds were responsible for the actual design of the piece.) In addition to being the second rarest hue for a diamond (red holds the number-one spot), the color green holds special meaning for Lopez. “I always say the color green is my lucky color,” she wrote in her newsletter, On The J.Lo. “Maybe you can remember a certain green dress. I’ve realized there are many moments in my life when amazing things happened when I was wearing green.”

Portugali agrees that the hue makes the ring special for a variety of reasons. “Among fancy-color diamonds, natural-color green stones with saturated hues are some of the rarest and most sought-after,” the diamond specialist, who previously worked at Van Cleef & Arpels and Harry Winston, wrote on Instagram after Bennifer shared the happy news of their engagement – adding that the color “synchronizes nature and tranquillity” and is associated with “luck and prosperity”. And lest you thought Bennifer had left pink diamonds behind them? Portugali also helped Affleck source a recent birthday gift for J.Lo: a pair of green diamond earrings rimmed with pink stones.
