Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have made it official. The couple married on Thursday, June 9 in a ceremony at their secluded Thousand Oaks home in Los Angeles.
The singer met the actor and fitness expert in October of 2016 on the set of her ‘Slumber Party’ music video when Sam was cast as her love interest. His photo was one of the many that the star had to sift through and select from. She chose him as soon as she laid eyes on him. “I did not have to audition,” he has said. “It was a direct book.”
A few months passed, then Britney found Sam’s number in her bag. “I was like, ‘He is really cute. This guy is really cute,” she told a radio host in 2017. “So then I called him, and ever since then…he is just a really fun, funny person.”
Britney made their relationship Instagram official on New Year’s Day 2017, posting a photo of her and Sam at dinner. They’ve gone on to make many tandem workout videos together. “The exercises, I come up with them, but the videos are because of my better half. She’s the video director,” Sam has said. “It’s a very fun thing, and I look back at them and smile.” As the grassroots campaign to end Britney’s conservatorship gained momentum, Sam publicly threw his support behind it, posting a selfie wearing a #FreeBritney t-shirt and celebrating with the star when her father’s control over her personal life and finances came to an end.
The couple got engaged in September of 2021 when Sam proposed with a classic 4-carat round brilliant cut diamond solitaire in a platinum cathedral setting by Roman Malayev. Sam had “Lioness”—his special nickname for Britney—engraved inside the band.
In April of 2022, the couple announced that they were expanding their family, announcing that Britney was pregnant. But one month later, the pair shared the sad news that Britney had had a miscarriage, writing on Instagram: “Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family…”
To plan their wedding, the couple sat down with celebrity event producer Jeffrey Best of Best Events. “We really wanted to make this a small and beautiful moment with family and friends,” Britney tells Vogue. “We wanted warm and feminine colors including blush, white, cream, and gold, and a lot of various shades of pinks, blush, and reds.” Florals were by Marks Garden and looked as though they’d been plucked from the pages of a fairytale.
The bride wore a sleek, off-the-shoulder custom Versace dress with a leg-revealing slit up one side and a classic white veil with satin edging. Sam complemented Britney’s look in a tux by Versace.
Charlotte and Sofia Tilbury collaborated to create the bride’s natural beauty look. “I was so thrilled and honored to be asked to design Britney’s bridal beauty look!” Charlotte says. “Britney is an icon of our time who has inspired and empowered us all with her joy and positive energy. She’s such a natural beauty and has the most mesmerizing big, brown eyes.” Tilbury’s niece Sofia was there on the day to bring the look to life.
The bride’s glow was further enhanced by the jewelry she eventually put on to walk down the aisle. Britney’s bridal pieces weighed in at 62 carats and were all from jeweler to the stars Stephanie Gottlieb. Her look included round diamond and pear shaped drop earrings, a heart shaped diamond tennis necklace in white gold, and an oval diamond tennis bracelet.
The couple also had wedding bands created by Stephanie, with Britney choosing a beautiful stack of two bands to pair with her engagement ring, and Sam selecting two platinum bands.
“We knew that Britney’s dress had a classic silhouette with an open neckline, so we designed timeless pieces that would complement the style,” Stephanie told Vogue. “We collaboratively selected the pieces that felt the most natural to Britney.”
Stationed outside of the couple’s home, which was draped in pink and roses for the occasion, was a white horse with gold hooves pulling a carriage fit for the Princess of Pop. The ten-minute ceremony took place under a tent draped in velvet blush. Guests included Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, Kathy Hilton, Maria Menounos, Ansel Elgort, will.i.am, and Donatella Versace.
After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate. At the party, Britney changed into three more looks. A black mini dress was followed by a two-toned outfit, and finally, a red mini dress, all by Versace. Contemporary Catering created the couple’s citrus blossom cake and the music was by DJ Albert.
The couple didn’t have a first dance, but Selena Gomez, Madonna, and the bride danced together to “Toxic,” followed by Paris and Britney singing “Stars Are Blind.”
The newlyweds made their exit at 10:15 p.m. in a Rolls Royce. As they drove away, guests surrounded their car with sparklers.
