Madiyah Al Sharqi unveils her Spring 2018 resort collection with vogue.me. The offering is the womenswear designer’s first resort collection since launching her eponymous brand in 2011. “This is the first collection for resort after 6 years. I have been progressing with more ready-to-wear pieces in recent collections and felt that this season was the right time to experiment with a lot more wardrobe staples,” says Al Sharqi to vogue.me.
The daughter of the Ruler of Fujairah, U.A.E, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, the Dubai-based designer’s feminine label continues to expand exponentially since its debut. In addition to being carried in dozens of boutiques across the Middle East (including The Modist,) the label has gained momentum internationally, too. Multi-brand boutique Fivestory in New York started carrying her label in 2015.
The brand’s elegant separates, dresses, and outerwear have also found fans in international and regional celebrities and influencers, including Lana El Sahely, Dana Hourani, Caroline Issa, Sofia Richie, and Marwa Biltagi. More recently, Unicef Goodwill Ambassador Muzoon Almellehan chose a lace, millennial pink gown with ruffled sleeves from the label’s Fall 2017 collection to accept the Girl Crusader award at the 2017 Glamour Women of The Year Awards.
The Esmod graduate, who fell in love with the process of fashion design as a child, mostly in part to growing up surrounded by tailors, continues to show great potential with her first ever resort offering. Rather than flex her creative muscle in an all-new direction, Al Sharqi stays true to her design aesthetic, retaining the print, silhouettes, and color palettes beloved by her clients. Featuring a line-up of expertly-cut trousers, tops, dresses, and skirts punctuated with pinstripes, lace, and ruched detailing, the collection is an extension of the designer’s hotly sought-after ready-to-wear range. “Daywear blouses—and even long dresses that I will consistently create—are made in approachable fabrics like linen and pinstripe poplin, with minimal to no embroidery, and at an accessible price point compared to my main collections,” notes the designer. Loose midi dresses, and wide-leg trousers and jumpsuits offer a contemporary take on modest dressing that will undoubtedly costume the jet-setting Arab woman on her next get-away.
