On Sunday evening, Dolce & Gabbana brought a touch of Sicily to the shores of Dubai. The Italian design duo staged the Italian brand’s first-ever show in the Middle East, taking over Dolce & Gabbana’s newly opened boutique in The Dubai Mall. Entitled “Day & Night,” the show featured womenswear, menswear, and regional exclusives, in a sartorial spectacle that left the front row dazzled. Karen Wazen, Lana El Sahely, and Sheikha Dana Al Khalifa were among the night’s famous faces, with guests treated to a performance from a live orchestra before the show began. And once it did, the runway was alight with glimmering, glamorous designs, showcased by more than 100 models who jetted in especially for the occasion.
Turning the location into a green, white and red-lit tribute to Italy, models stormed the catwalk in a series of vibrant, bold, and eclectic creations, typical of any Dolce & Gabbana display. With around half the looks created just for Dubai, nods to the region included arabesque graphics and modest silhouettes. Floor-sweeping gowns were enlivened in hues of peony, orange, yellow, and blue, with scatterings of gemstones and crystals twinkling in motion. Floral prints and bucolic embroideries lent a romance to the collection, while touches of silver and gold imbued the night with a certain regality. Lashings of feathers, resplendent in elaborate headpieces, created a whimsicality, tempered by ornate motifs and regal crowns. In short, it was a collection fit for a queen.
“The reason we present shows in different locations throughout the globe is because we want to share our culture and the Dolce & Gabbana brand DNA with the world,” said the designers ahead of the show. “With these different shows, we try to mix our DNA with the DNA of the country, because we don’t want to colonize anyone’s culture — we love and respect all cultures.”
