Today, we join His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in mourning the passing of his brother, His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Saeed, who reportedly passed due to health reasons earlier today, served as the Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The sad news was made official by the Presidential Court, which shared the following statement: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful … With hearts faithful to God’s decree and destiny, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourns his late brother, HH Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, who passed away today.”
Prior to his death, the Presidential Court had also alerted the public about the royal’s deteriorating health with a statement on July 22, which read, “Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative, is going through a health problem. We pray to Allah Almighty to grant him quick recovery.”
In memory of his beloved brother, Sheikh Mohamed has declared a three day mourning period which begins today and ends on Saturday, July 29. During the next three days, flags will be seen at half-mast.
Born in Al Ain in 1965, HH Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was appointed in June 2010, and served as the representative of the ruler of Abu Dhabi until his death. A former member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the royal was also chairman of the Abu Dhabi Maritime Port Authority, Undersecretary of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Planning, and the official representative of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He will be missed not just in the region, but by people across the globe.
