Queen Elizabeth II, then Princess Elizabeth, was just 22 when she gave birth to the future King Charles III on November 14, 1948 at Buckingham Palace. As her eldest son, and therefore heir to the throne, the pair had a close relationship. In the latter years of her life, the then Prince Of Wales often joined his mother at official engagements, as well as attending events on her behalf.
Now, King Charles has officially been crowned along with his wife, Queen Camilla. In February 2022, his mother – on the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne – had expressed her “sincere wish” that “when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service”.
In honor of King Charles’s III Coronation, see the most touching photographs of the Queen and Charles together over the years.
