Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “only learned of Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis when she released her public video message last night”, sources have claimed.

The Princess of Wales bravely revealed her health battle to the world in a deeply personal speech last night, sharing that she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year after undergoing a major abdominal surgery in January. It has now emerged the Duke and Duchess of Sussex knew nothing of Kate’s cancer diagnosis before she released her emotional video message to the public last night. Sources told New York Post, ‘They had no idea, and only learned of the news around the same time the rest of the world found out.’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a statement hours after the Princess of Wales bravely revealed her health battle to the world. In a statement, they said, “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.” The couple are currently living in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Sussexes stepped back from working royal life in 2020, relocating to Montecito in California. Relations between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family have deteriorated since then – reaching a major low after the publication of Harry’s memoir Spare, in which he accused the Queen of sacrificing him on her ‘PR altar’ and detailed a range of other grievances, including an alleged physical attack by the Prince of Wales.

But relations between Harry and his father, at least, appear to be thawing. Earlier this week, royal expert Ingrid Seward, said she ‘can’t see’ that the Duke of Sussex will write another book because he fears how it would further damage his relationship with his father.

Speaking to 9Honey, she said: “I think it certainly damaged his relationship with his father that he criticized his wife so openly. But you know, Charles has such a busy life, there’s so much going on, I don’t think he’s holding a grudge against Harry, I just think he’s withdrawn from Harry.”

“I’ve got other trips planned that would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can.” The Prince also said, “I love my family” and expressed his gratitude for being able to visit the King last week after his diagnosis. When asked whether a family illness can have a “reunifying effect”, Prince Harry said that he was sure.

Meanwhile the state of Meghan Markle’s relationship with the other members of the royal family remains unclear. The Duchess of Sussex is currently busy launching her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. The former actress announced she had founded the label, which is believed to be a lifestyle, cookery and homeware brand, on social media this month.
