King Charles III and Queen Camilla have released four official Coronation photographs to mark the end of the celebrations, including a spectacular new portrait with working members of the Royal Family.

Their Majesties were photographed at Buckingham Palace by Hugo Burnand, a former Tatler photographer, following the service at Westminster Abbey. There are individual portraits of the King and Queen in their Coronation regalia, a photo of the couple together, and a fourth image of Their Majesties with the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy.

King Charles is pictured in full regalia in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace. His Majesty wears the Robe of Estate, the Imperial State Crown and is holding the Sovereign’s Orb and Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross. The King is seated on a 1902 throne chair that is part of a pair made for the future King George V and Queen Mary for use at the Coronation of King Edward VII. These throne chairs were also used in the background of the 1937 Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Westminster Hall to receive addresses from the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament last year. Queen Camilla, pictured in the Green Drawing Room, wears Queen Mary’s Crown and Robe of Estate.

The Coronation portraits were released alongside a note from the King thanking ‘all those who have helped to make this such a special occasion’ and everyone who ‘joined in the celebrations’. King Charles and Queen Camilla also pledged to ‘rededicate their lives to serving the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and Commonwealth.’ It marks the end of a triumphant Coronation weekend that involved a busy program of Buckingham Palace receptions, royal street parties, the Windsor Castle concert and the Big Help Out volunteering initiative, which was supported by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children.

The full note, signed by King Charles and released on Buckingham Palace letterhead, reads: ‘As the Coronation weekend draws to a close, my wife and I just wanted to share our most sincere and heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped to make this such a special occasion. We pay particular tribute to the countless people who have given their time and dedication to ensuring that the celebrations in London, Windsor and further afield were as happy, safe and enjoyable as possible.

‘To those who joined in the celebrations – whether at home, at street parties and lunches, or by volunteering in communities – we thank you, each and every one. To know that we have your support and encouragement, and to witness your kindness expressed in so many different ways, has been the greatest possible Coronation gift, as we now rededicate our lives to serving the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and Commonwealth.’

The letter of Thanks written by King Charles III.
