Kate Middleton Marks a Milestone Moment While Recovering From Surgery

Princess Catherine is expected to be relieved of her royal duties for a few months as she recovers from the abdominal surgery she underwent in January, but that didn’t stop her from marking a milestone for a cause close to her heart: the first anniversary of Kate Middleton’s Shaping Us initiative.

Kate Middleton’s Shaping Us initiative, which focuses on the importance of early childhood, marked one year since its official January 2023 launch this week. While Middleton is recuperating at home and did not appear in person for any celebratory occasions, her presence was felt through a video shared on Instagram by the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

The video features clips of Shaping Us events over the last year, many of which include Middleton putting time into championing her signature social cause. The footage of playgroups, sporting events, symposia, and more is set to audio of Middleton’s recent keynote speech at the Shaping Us National Symposium in London in November 2023.

“People often ask me why I focus my time on early childhood,” Middleton says in the recording. “Well, the answer is because I care deeply about making a positive difference in helping the most vulnerable and supporting those who are most in need.”

The audio of her speech continues: “Because if we can create a society which sees the child in every adult and the adult within every child, we will finally start to change it for the better.”

The caption posted with the video reflects on Kate Middleton’s Shaping Us initiative’s first year.

“It has been lovely to take a moment to look back over the past 12 months and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved so far: the amazing organizations who have hosted visits, our Champions who have helped us spread the word, our Advisory Group for their ongoing and invaluable support, and every single person and company who have supported in along the way,” it reads in part. “By building a supportive, nurturing world around children and those caring for them, we can make a huge difference to the physical and mental health and happiness of generations to come.”
