Kate Middleton’s surgery has gone off successfully, and the royal will be recovering in hospital over the next two weeks.
Last evening, Kensington Palace shared a statement announcing that the Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital this week to undergo a “planned” abdominal surgery. The operation was successful, the palace said in their statement, although it is expected that the royal will remain in hospital care for an estimated 10 to 14 days, after which time she will return to her home in Windsor to continue her recovery.
As a result, the Princess will be stepping back from public duties until after Easter, with many royal fans and followers taking to social media to express their wishes for a speedy recovery.
The statement also outlined the Princess’s wish for privacy surrounding the sharing of any personal medical information, or any further specifics about the operation she has undergone. “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” a Kensington Palace representative wrote. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normalcy for her children as possible.” As a result, they noted that they would “only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
The statement closed with a note expressing the Princess’s regret over having to cancel or delay her upcoming royal duties. “The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements,” it read. “She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
