Faissal El-Malak is a Palestinian designer who was born in 1988 and brought up between Montreal, Canada and Doha, Qatar. He trained as a fashion designer in Paris’s Atelier Chardon Savard and recently moved back to the Gulf, settling in Dubai in September 2014. El-Malak has developed his contemporary Middle Eastern design identity by bridging traditional artisan work with modern design.
Previously, he was invited to show his fashion collection at the Casablanca Festimode Fashion Week in Morocco and the Carthage Design and Fashion Festival in Tunisia (2010). El-Malak launched his eponymous brand a year later in Paris.
El-Malak showcased his relaunch collection of women’s ready-to-wear at Harvey Nichols Dubai in June 2015. With that first collection incorporating Yemeni handwoven textiles, his latest seasons focus of traditional hand-woven fabrics from the Medina of Tunis and the cotton jacquards of Upper Egypt, where he has worked closely with the artisans to develop modern interpretations of their textile and
silver jewelry.
More recently, El-Malak was selected as one of the finalists for the first edition of the “Who Is On Next Dubai” competition as part of the Vogue Italia Fashion Dubai Experience 2015, where he presented his SS16 collection at the Dubai Mall in October 2015.
