HH Sheikh Mohammed Has 2020 Vision For Dubai’s Successful Future

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has two main priorities: “people’s happiness” and the “UAE’s prosperity”. Although a mission to become one of the best cities in the world may be intimidating to some leaders, Sheikh Mohammed’s undivided attention on the sustainable development of not only Dubai but also all seven emirates is rapidly turning this hypothetical idea into certain reality. On Saturday, January 4—the 14th anniversary of his Accession Day—Sheikh Mohammed penned an open letter to the “people, residents, and visitors of Dubai” depicting his overarching vision for the Middle Eastern hub over the next 50 years.

“Today, on January 4, 2020, we renew our pledge to continue advancing Dubai, serving justice and improving the quality of life for the current and future generations without delay or obstruction,” wrote His Highness.

After observing and evaluating the current state of affairs in the local government, Sheikh Mohammed explained the path to holistic positive change lies in 12 principles, including establishing a Dubai Council headed by him and his two sons, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and overseen by six city officials.

This council will focus on improving the “six strategic growth pillars of the emirate” including “citizen services, government development, infrastructure, security and justice, and health and knowledge” to enhance the quality of life for all who make Dubai their home—whether it’s for a week or a decade.

As what has become customary in the destination of many of the ‘world’s largest’, a “major project” is in the emirate’s pipeline with the Council charged to be on the lookout for other future opportunities as well. The stakes are high for each of the department’s leaders as those who fail to achieve their goals and bring actionable change within two years will be removed from their posts.

The Ruler of Dubai concluded the letter: “We reaffirm that the ultimate goal of the new system in Dubai is to create transformations, overcome emerging challenges, rejuvenate ideas and ensure a better future for our current and next generations for whom we strive to leave the world’s most livable city.”
