Today, Karl Lagerfeld set his sights on the stars for Chanel Fall 2017. Notorious for otherworldly sets and elaborate backdrops, the creative director transformed the Grand Palais into a stylish space center complete with a rocket ship centerpiece. The front row saw the likes of Chanel muses Cara Delevingne and Lily-Rose Depp, who was accompanied by her mother Vanessa Paradis.
On the runway, mocked as a launch pad, models including the Hadid sisters, Kendall Jenner, and Lindsey Wixson circled the platform in Lagerfeld’s futuristic offering that nodded to ’60s mods. Bouclé tweed took shape through suits, straight-cut mini dresses, and boxy tops in shades of cool grays, while astronaut prints were splashed across free-flowing silhouettes. A sampling of metallics in iridescent green and foil silver were carved into trench coats, tailored separates, and inflated, quilted wraps that recall Mylar blankets. A parade of black dresses crafted with feathering details and embellishments closed the show with elegant eveningwear takeaways.
Cap-toe boots that hit just shy of the knee ran the gamut from cream to glitter. Meanwhile, sculptural minaudières were dreamed up as spaceships and planets. Most of the models donned knitted, pearl-embellished headbands, and shielded their stare with oversized, mirrored sunglasses.
The latest lineup was completed with out-of-this-world beauty looks. Models’ lengths were blown out to Bardot-like proportions and adorned with thick headbands. As for makeup, a frosty, silver-toned shadow enveloped models’ eyes, complete with a slick of jet-black liner.
