Zuhair Murad Pays Homage to Ancient Egypt Through His SS20 Couture Collection

The City of Lights welcomed Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad’s Haute Couture Spring Summer 2020 collection in glittering golds, paying homage to Ancient Egypt and the queens who left a mark on history by their beauty and power.

As a reverence to the Sun God, evening gowns were adorned with capes, with sun pleats in vermilion or pitch black with a distinct harmony between strong architectural cutting and a sensual feminine tone.

From the blush and warm tones of the sand to the crimson and emerald colors, his elaborate designs with emphasized shoulder pads and arm cuffs, displayed in hieroglyphs, snakes and bird wings there was a definite nod to his leading ladies; Nefertiti, Isis, and Cleopatra.

With a palette of turquoise, vermilion, opaline, cyan and eglantine pink showcased in silk tulle, muslin, glittering lurex, and Duchess satin there was a proud and mysterious elegance running through the collection.

Just like his muses Nefertiti, Isis and Cleopatra, Murad’s timeless showpiece, an impressive white wedding dress adorned with exquisite detailed embroidery and beadwork summarized a collection rich in symbolism and renewal leaving his own mark on beauty and power and the struggles between the two.
