“Every season, I challenge myself,” said founder Zareena of her eponymous label, backstage after her show. Considering that she launched her first collection in 2005, she has had over a decade to perfect her craft. Her Spring ’18 collection displayed this. Rare is it that a designer can feature look after look in one color (taupe) before evolving to a gray-blue, burgundy, and then black in the same fabric—chiffon (at times hand-pleated)—and maintain the interest of the packed Fashion Forward audience.

These are clothes that are firmly made for Middle Eastern and Eastern markets. Zareena designs outside of trends, and in a trend-savvy region, this could be off-putting, especially to millennials. Meanwhile, the color scheme appeared rather dark for the spring/summer season. However, there is no doubt that these are clothes that will flatter women of all sizes, and dressed in Zareena, a lady’s reflection will showcase the most elegant and almost regal version of herself.

Along with the silhouettes that appeared to sail down the runway, billowing with hypnotic effect, the golden embroidery, as featured on each dress, proposed an embellishment that was almost tribal, and served as a commanding strength to an otherwise feminine collection of occasion wear.
