“I’m fascinated by inventiveness and contemporary forward-looking fashion. In this season, I wanted to emphasize the indescribable sentiment of female empowerment despite their color, shape, culture, state, and general surroundings,” says Yasmin Al Mulla, the designer behind YNM of her new Ramadan collection.
The offering is an ode to the 1940’s. Featuring handmade kaftans and jelebas in rich materials such as raw silk, soft linen, light crepe, and pleats, each piece is embellished with glass beads and floral embroidery that we can easily picture on ’40’s actors Rita Hayworth and Bette Davis. “The usage of raw silk encapsulates the rise of silver screen glamour and sophistication, this collection symbolizes a new hope, dramatic shift in fashion, and cements female empowerment, all bringing together a progressive perspective on classic fashion styles worn in a timeless era,” reveals Al Mulla, who launched the contemporary womenswear label in 2014.

The collection references the trailblazing decades’s New Look, which was the brainchild of Christian Dior. The iconic designer’s debut Spring 1947 collection featured romantic, hyper-feminine silhouettes that would revolutionize women’s post-war fashion and become forever known as the New Look. “This collection is all about highlighting the look of that era— delicate touches of abstract flowers are added to pieces, softly turning them in to graceful wearable garments. Cementing the austerity of the decades’ fashion,” explains the designer.
To reflect the season, Al Mulla chose a springy, feminine color palette that manifests into muted pink tones, eggshell yellow, and seaweed. Additionally, four of the styles come in mini, pint-sized versions for those who want to nail mommy-and-me style during the Holy Month.
