Yasmin Al Mulla’s Motherworldly Fall 2017 Collection

Matching mother-daughter dressing is one of the most charming fashion statements – just ask Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana, who have made it a habit to send mothers hand-in-hand with their mini me’s down the runway. In the spirit of twinning style, Emirati fashion designer Yasmin Al Mulla has unveiled her Fall 2017 collection, complete with kaftans, separates, and their pint-sized versions. “Many of our clients are elegant mothers who aspire to dress their daughters fashionably,” Al Mulla tells Vogue Arabia. She isn’t wrong – in fact, many celebrities have taken to making their outfits a family affair, such as Beyoncé, who often dresses her daughter Blue Ivy in matching Gucci pieces.

Al Mulla, who launched her brand in 2014 (alongside her sister), focuses on conservative dressing, creating modest, high-necked kaftans, overlays, and dresses. Her goal is to create designs that transcend trends and seasons. “We create timeless designs that match and fit all ages; our clothes can be worn 20 years from now, and still look great,” she proclaims.

Her new offering culminates towards natural and pale colors, and seeks inspiration from all things celestial. Skies, clouds, and stars are major themes in the collection. This reflects in the draped, airy sleeves, hand-embroidered star accents, and washed-out color palette. Each need-it-now piece has its own mini version.

“Each season comes with a variety of designs to match different personalities, styles, and women, yet falling under the same cohesiveness to enhance the power of simplicity in all aspects,” she explains. When asked to describe her collection, the designer coins her own term: “Motherworldly.”
