Kendall Jenner has been wearing a lot of neon green. For New Year’s Eve, the model wore a frilly highlighter shirt by I.Am.Gia with shiny black Latex pants, a look that seemed to jump off of my phone screen. She captioned it, “Really into green these days. Happy New Year!” and included a matching acid green heart emoji. Earlier, on Christmas Eve, she wore a strapless dress in a similar nuclear hue, and in the beginning of November, Jenner opted for a verdant Spotify green Saks Potts fur-trimmed coat. Some of her family members have jumped on the train, too: Kim Kardashian West wore a body-skimming highlighter green dress to 2 Chainz’s wedding this past August.
The green is far from the naturalistic Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral. Instead, it’s blinding. It’s bright. It reminds me of chemically engineered lawn grass. It is quite literally an out-of-this-world color. The specific choice seems to have an underlying meaning. Constance Hart, a color therapy expert and the founder of Conscious Colors, weighed in on Jenner’s love for the shade. Hart suggests that while standard green has a balancing effect due to its combination of cooling and warming tones, Jenner’s choice contains a blast of yellow, which Hart considers to be “activating and stimulating.”
The color can have quite an effect on its wearer, too. Hart opines that “this hue can help draw one’s self-confidence, self-esteem, and joy outward,” and adds: “In addition, neon green is providing a color that gets energy moving – in physical, digestive, and mental realms. Exposure to yellow in general can help in these departments.” So, what can we say about Jenner in the look-at-me color? Maybe she is just feeling great, or maybe she’s purposely trying to channel upbeat emotions by wearing this shocking shade. Either way, let’s hear it for this celeb-approved green and the good vibes that come with it.
