#1. Ashi Studio presents its first runway show during Paris Couture Week

Saudi designer Mohammed Ashi of Ashi Studio presented his first runway collection during Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday. The show, which was inspired by the bygone eras of the 1950’s and 1990’s unfolded at the Ritz Carlton, where there as no front row— instead, guests were treated to a lavish, candle-lit dinner while models marched down the runway wearing jaw-dropping gowns. Entitled “Letters to Margaret,” the 27-piece collection featured sumptuous fabrics such as taffetas moiré and double satin, with hints of elements like fabric manipulation, feathers, sequins, pleats, ruffles, and embroideries. Following the show, British singer Arlissa serenaded guests while wearing a white, couture gown plucked from the collection.

Following a 16-year hiatus, Balmain made its return to the couture calendar in Paris on Wednesday night. Olivier Rousteing‘s first couture collection for the French house was a futuristic play on unexpected proportions, references to streetwear, and a color palette of white, pale blue, and pink. Models in white makeup and hair paint marched down the runway dripping in pearls, wearing bulbous, leather skirts, and carrying ball-shaped bags bearing the new “B” logo recently unveiled by the brand.

#4. Lebanese designers shine bright in the City of Light

For Saab, the underwater flora of the Caribbean served as inspiration, resulting in a dreamy collection of slinky, sequined silhouettes, hand-embroidered and hand-painted gowns, and asymmetrically draped evening dresses in blue silk crêpe. Ripples and reefs took on a life of their own on luxurious fabrics like sheer pleated tulle, organza, and iridescent taffeta. The final look, a crystal-encrusted tulle wedding dress had the entire FROW pulling out their iPhones.

Murad also drew inspiration from mermaids and the mystery of the sea. The Lebanese couturier sent out a lineup of evening wear in ’80’s-inspired silhouettes, sequined, tulle gowns, and tailored skirt suits boasting chiffon trains in a delightful, ocean-inspired color palette of turquoise, aqua, pink, and coral. A standout was a layered nude tulle ball gown with hand-embroidered corals. The finale came in the form of a sparkling, sequined wedding gown.
