“In 2022, Vogue had a crazy idea. We wanted to help bring Manhattan back to life after the pandemic and honor not only the extraordinary fashion community there, but also New York City itself. That idea became Vogue World: New York,” said Anna Wintour, Chief Content Officer, Condé Nast, and Global Editorial Director, Vogue, at the Ritz Paris on Monday. The press conference marked the announcement of Vogue World: Paris, the third stop in the remarkable series that last enthralled the city of London. On June 23, Vogue World: Paris will take over Place Vendôme for a star-studded evening ahead of Haute Couture Week, and just before the 2024 Olympics.

The preview was attended not only by professionals from the fashion industry but also by several extraordinary French athletes and Olympians. This is because Vogue World 2024 is set to be a celebration of 100 years of both, fashion and sport, as it pledges support to Secours Populaire, a humanitarian organization dedicated to granting individuals in low-income households the unique opportunity to attend the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Vogue World will donate a portion of the net proceeds from ticket sales to the Paris 2024 charitable tickets program in association with the non-profit which also facilitates access to essential equipment for young, aspiring athletes across France.

“French designers and Olympic athletes actually have a lot in common: Years and years of diligent training and appreciation for excellence, and a strong taste for gold,” said Wintour. “We want to keep some of Vogue World a surprise, but I’m so happy to announce the spectacular team that has rallied around the project.” Her speech was followed by addresses from designers Pharrell Williams, Simon Porte Jacquemus, and Olivier Rousteing; Bruno Pavlovsky, Executive President of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode; and fencer Enzo Lefort.

“Those who know my work, know that for me, the world of fashion and sport have always been connected,” said Jacquemus, the founder of his namesake brand, before going on to explain the concept behind this year’s theme. “We all know that, in fashion sometimes you have to run fast, very fast. Vogue World: Paris will collaborate with youth sports academies from all over Paris and around the country to celebrate 10 different disciplines: track and field, cycling, swimming, equestrian sport, gymnastics, martial arts, tennis, fencing, my personal favorite football, and break dancing, the newest Olympic sport. For the show, each one will be paired with a decade in French fashion, going all the way back to 1924, when Paris first hosted the Olympics. As I mentioned, those pairs will be overseen by Alexander Samson, curator of the Palais Galliera museum, as well as Ib Kamara and Carine Roitfeld. With those three working together, I know that we all be in for something really special.”

“Paris has always been the Alpha and the Omega of the fashion world, the place where everything begins and ends,” said Rousteing, creative director of Balmain. “So, I’m pleased to announce that Vogue World will feature fashion by French houses, as well as a few from abroad that have made Paris their home, with looks from the past and the present. As a proud Parisian myself,  I couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead, and in just a few months, we will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show the entire world the true beauty of Paris and a beauty that’s so much more powerful than all those classic movie scenes and picture postcards.”
