While high summer may be in full swing and there’s seemingly no end to the stifling heat, the fashion world is deep in thought for Fall 2017. As regional designers reveal their offerings for the season ahead, the fashion desk speaks to Doaa Alghouti, the founding designer of Anatomi, to share the winter line-up with Vogue.me.
Based in Dubai, the brand is fast becoming a go-to label for traditional seasonal separates, elevated abayas, and wardrobe staples with global relevance. The Fall 2017 collection takes its inspiration from Islamic art and architecture, with riffs of dome-shaped embroidery on bell sleeves and geometric shapes that reference arabesque culture. Alghouti tells Vogue Arabia that “a beautiful corner on the walls of a mosque” provided a source of inspiration for some of her designs here. See the full collection here.
A crisp white two-piece that makes up look two of Anatomi’s collection will prove to be an essential for balmy evenings, with its swing hemline and metallic accents, there’s an in-built sense of empowerment to the design. “There are countless women who provide me with inspirations every day,” says Alghouti. “But what inspires me the most is a woman who’s intelligent, a woman with a career, a woman who doesn’t follow the crowd but listens to her internal voice, a woman with style.”
Available to its GCC clientele, the collection includes a sequence of black abayas in textured fabrics, that take conservative dressing to next-level chic. “In the Arabic culture, modesty is very much encouraged not only in terms of clothing but also in actions and ways of communications,” reflects Alghouti. “A woman is capable of being fashionably modest but the true beauty always lies on the inside.” And so, the Anatomi woman is on-point for the new season but understatedly so. She wears the clothes.
