VMAs 2020: Some of the Boldest Looks from the Socially-Distanced Event

Hosted by American actor, singer, and television personality Keke Palmer, this year’s MTV Video Music Awards looked a little different from what we’ve grown accustomed to over the years. Featuring performances from Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and more, the 37th annual ceremony was held in Covid-19-safe outdoor arenas across all five boroughs of New York City. An entirely reimagined concept, majority of the event was pre-recorded and aired on Sunday night, with artists having performed to empty arenas on account of social distancing restrictions in place across the United States.

Yet, in maintaining some semblance of normality, the event managed to include a star-studded roster of artists and performers who walked the event’s prestigious red carpet, albeit in a manner that was pre-recorded as opposed to live. Nonetheless, as the first major event to have included an in-person component since the onset of the pandemic, the stars did not disappoint. With outfits ranging from avant-garde and outrageous to subdued and elegant, this year’s red carpet was a melting pot of glamour, style, and creativity. Take a look through the slideshow above to witness some of the boldest looks from last night’s reimagined event.
