Latifa Al Gurg, the Emirati-Danish designer behind Dubai-based brand, Twisted Roots, explores a new destination with every collection. While Spring 2017 took us to Savannah, for Fall, Al Gurg transports us to the bohemian city of Prague.
The Czech Republic capital’s famous skyline, featuring original architecture from Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, was a great source of inspiration for the Twisted Roots Fall 2017 collection. “The experience of other cultures enriches and defines one’s own twisted roots,” says Al Gurg of her label’s ethos.
The Fall 2017 line includes separates like crop tops, cape cardigans, trousers, and silk shirts in purple, teal, blush, and ivory, which all mix and match, and pack, perfectly in the suitcase for any adventure ahead. To minimize creasing, fabrics are made with 100% cotton and silk and fall loosely around the body giving a modest silhouette. One two-tone silk shirt features pleated, billowed sleeves, another a blush-colored cape with pointed cuff details, while a long maxi-dress showcases a graphic pattern, and loose pants are accented with vent pleats. All the pieces recall the “city of a hundred spires” in abstract fashion.
