On Monday, Tony Ward presented its Spring 2019 Haute Couture collection at l’École-de-Médecine in Paris. The inspiration for the new offering was the dragonfly, more specifically the anatomy of its wing — from its skeleton and movement to its color palette. “I like the fact that they’re alone,” explained the Lebanese-Italian designer about the winged creature that informed his collection this season.

The beautiful lineup of couture creations that punctuated the offering was a true study of Ward’s outstanding craftsmanship. Skills which he no doubt sharpened under the highly-trained wings of his mentors Claude Montana, Gianfranco Ferré, and Karl Lagerfeld during stints at Lanvin, Dior, and Chloé respectively, before establishing his eponymous label 22-years-ago.

Featuring a plethora of red carpet-worthy gowns that will no doubt find favor in the couturier’s clients, such as Dorra Zarrouk, Demi Lovato, and Katrina Kaif, the designs come in a vivid color palette that ranges from solid deep purple and holographic emerald green to subdued pastel tones that reflect the dragonfly’s gleaming body and wings. Many of the jaw-dropping creations were accessorized with beautifully handcrafted headpieces from London-based milliner Yana Markova.

Stand-out looks include a plunging, form-fitting gown embellished with hundreds of thousands of tiny beads in varying hues of pink, red, green, and black. There was also sequin-encrusted evening dresses, for which sculptural ruffles, or actual protruding wings, take the place of any other form of ornamentation. Beauty wise, models’ lengths were raked away from their faces into sleek, structural topknots that added a touch of refinement to each jaw-dropping creation.
