Good things came in threes for Tommy Hilfiger at London Fashion Week. Not one, not two, but all three of the Hadid siblings took to the runway for the third installment of TommyXGigi. The show revealed three Hilfiger collections from his collaboration with Vogue Arabia’s debut cover girl, Gigi, through to the menswear and womenswear offerings. No less, it was also the designer’s third time showing an in-season, see-now-buy-now collection after his maison departed from the typical schedule followed by most brands of showing the season ahead – in this instance, Spring 2018. And so, the Hadids kick-started the show with a boom: Gigi opened, closely followed by Bella, and then Anwar.
We’ve seen September issue cover star Bella and sister Gigi take to the runway together numerous times, from Anna Sui last week to Prabal Gurung. Read Vogue Arabia’s full 101 on the American-Palestinian duo here. With Anwar also booked for the LFW show, the collection was presented as a family affair.
This is the first time the trio of Hadids have walked the same runway, and it achieved maximum impact as the front row raised their smart phones high to snap away in a moment of Insta-mania. What’s next? Mother Yolanda’s return to the runway? Stay tuned.
After making his way past crowds of screaming fans outside the venue, K-Pop superstar Park Chan-yoel graced the front row at the Hilfiger show. To further cement the rock vibe, Georgia May and Lizzie, two of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger’s daughters, were cast in the model line-up.
Hilfiger’s approach to fashion week is to react to what his loyal fans want right here, and right now. And it works. #TommyNow mania is geared towards the moment, featuring a collection worn by top models and immediately available to consumers (although it is now sold out, actually) .
We look forward to seeing more Hadid action on the runways as the fashion focus switches from London to Milan. Hold on tight, the fashion juggernaut is still on the road.
