Timeless and Sustainable – This Iconic Bag Just Got a Green Revamp

Prada’s iconic triangular logo took on a whole new meaning when the Italian fashion group committed to moving towards sustainability by 2021 – starting with a range of recycled nylon bags. Since its introduction in 1984, the Prada nylon backpack has gone on to become a street-style classic. Now, Prada has reinvented this classic and shifted with the times, by producing a capsule collection made from environmentally-friendly materials.

Featuring six iconic styles, the Prada Re-Nylon line uses Econyl: a regenerated-nylon yarn crafted from reclaimed ocean plastics, fishing nets, and textile fiber waste. Already used by brands such as Gucci and Stella McCartney, Econyl was created in partnership with Italian synthetic fiber producer Aquafil and claims to reduce environmental emissions of CO2.

“With this project Prada marks the step, taking on a leading role in environmental sustainability among Italian brands. We are happy to collaborate on their capsule collection, but above all, to support them as partners in the process of converting the entire nylon production,” said Aquafil Chairman Giulio Bonazzi.

Prada’s goal is to transition all current virgin nylon to recycled nylon in the next couple of years, joining the influx of luxury brands pledging sustainable futures. With a focus on responsibility, Prada will also donate a percentage of Re-Nylon sales to UNESCO, to help improve education about sustainability to students worldwide.

The unisex Re-Nylon collection includes a belt bag, a shoulder bag, a tote bag, a duffle and two signature Prada backpacks in navy hues. From the weekender style to the on-trend belt bag, each piece is stamped with a sustainable emblem: a new interpretation of Prada’s logo that represents renewal. Through the capsule, Prada seeks to change the idea of timeless, by creating bags that can truly last forever.
