Cinderella may be fictional, but you can emulate the fairy-book princess’s crystal footwear thanks to a new collaboration. French crystal brand Baccarat has teamed up with footwear designer Diego Dolcini on a limited-edition collection of 15 pairs of shoes, each finished with a shimmering heel. The capsule line was created to celebrate Dolcini’s 25-year anniversary of shoemaking, and is entitled Cristal Couture. The extravagant collection is crafted in signature Baccarat colors – amber, ruby, amethyst, and black – with the crystal heels coming in two heights, 7 centimeters and 10 centimeters.
Italian designer Dolcini described the partnership as an “exciting and new adventure”, revealing the result was a “first in the history of shoemaking”. There are three different designs in total, each named in tribute to iconic French women: the Catherine (Deneuve), the Brigitte (Bardot), and the Lou (Doillon). The collection launched on July 1, marked by an elegant party at Maison Baccarat in Paris.
The collaboration marks an expansion into fashion for Baccarat, with the crystal maker’s CEO, Daniela Riccardi, revealing the “idea of bringing Baccarat in the world of couture, catwalks and fashion shows [has been on our] minds for some time”. The line marked a “new chapter” for the brand, Riccardi added, and paid homage to the “art and elegance” of Dolcini’s designs. The shoemaker launched his eponymous label in 1993, and has also designed footwear for Gucci, Pucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. Since 2016, he has been head shoe designer at Balmain.
“I like to think that I do not just design shoes, but rather objects of desire,” said Dolcini, whose designs have been worn by Madonna, Beyoncé and Rihanna. “They are sculptures inspired by strong ideas and concepts, by emotions that move me to create them and women to wear them.”
