La Croisette. The Oscars across the Atlantic. The Cannes Film Festival is known by many names, but that doesn’t change the fact that it exists to honor some of the greatest filmmakers in the world. Naturally, the greatest in film often comes alongside the greatest in fashion. Arab designers have been blazing trails in the world of fashion recently– if you didn’t know, Cardi B just chose to be immortalized in wax in an Ashi Studio gown– so in honor of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, let’s take a trip down memory lane to revisit some standout looks by Arab designers from Cannes 2018.
Nicole Sherzinger embodied class and elegance in this decadent Ashi Studios creation with a feathered bodice and a ballgown skirt.
Nadine Labaki premiered her new film 'Capernaum' at last year's Cannes Film Festival. Here, she wears an emerald belted strapless dress by Elie Saab that oozes old Hollywood glamour. Her dress, beautiful as it was, was hardly the highlight of the night-- her film got a 15-minute standing ovation and she ended up taking home the Palme d'Or, a prestigious award reserved for the best in filmmaking.
Jessica Kahawaty wore her home country in this refined structural silk number by Lebanese designers Azzi + Osta. On Instagram, Kahawaty thanked the designers for "making her feel like a princess." We can't argue with that!
Helen Mirren gave us major medieval princess vibes with this navy Elie Saab gown with golden beading and long, flowing sleeves.
Take the bougainvilleas in your garden, but make it fashion. Deepika Padukone stuns in this sculpted fuchsia gown with statement shoulders by Ashi Studio.
Winnie Harlow draped herself in this liquid metallic dress by Jean Louis Sabaji for her moment on the carpet. The custom creation featured cutouts and a train so long she needed help to lift it up for optimal photo ops. What a mood!
Bella Hadid wowed at the French Rivera in a sparkling silver gown by Elie Saab. The dress featured a superlow back, and was styled with blue diamond earrings and an embellished clutch.
Alessandra Ambrosio stole the show in a black beaded lace gown by Zuhair Murad that was as elegant as it was daring.
A Cannes moment so good, we had to feature her twice! Ambrosio and Murad smash it out of the park with this couture beaded jumpsuit featuring a skirt overlay.
