The Best-Dressed Celebrities From the El Gouna Film Festival Red Carpet

On Thursday night, the second edition of the annual El Gouna Film Festival kicked off with an opening ceremony at the Egyptian resort town’s Abu Tig Marina. Running until September 28, the week-long festival serves to celebrate outstanding works of theater and acknowledge those involved in their making. But before the evening’s attendees found their seats at the Marina Theater for opening film The Freshman, actors, directors, filmmakers, and models walked the red carpet to a light show of camera flashes that documented every sequined gown and tulle confection.

Among the A-listers in attendance were actresses Yasmine Sabri, Dorra Zarrouk, and Nelly Karim, who all chose to champion regional talent. Sabri chose a canary, sequin-drenched gown from Yousef Al-Jasmi, Zarrouk opted for an elegant, floor-trailing couture look from Georges Hobeika, and Karim donned a Victorian-esque, billowing ballgown created by Egyptian up-and-comer Mohanad Kojak. The young designer also found a fan in Injy El Mokkaddem, who turned heads on the red carpet wearing a frothy, pastel purple design with a sequin-embellished bodice that shone bright underneath the lights.

Dubai-based designers also made a debut at the prestigious ceremony. Former Vogue Arabia cover star Shereen Reda stunned in a black halter gown by design duo Taller Marmo, while Jordanian actress Saba Mubarak chose an elegant, pale-pink design with a floor-trailing, feather train from Dubai-based Michael Cinco. Saudi Arabia had a turn on the red carpet too, courtesy of Egyptian-Italian model Elisa Sednaoui who demanded a double take wearing a custom, velvet, teal Arwa Al Banawi gown that was three months in the making.
