True fact – Christian Dior never began a couture show without consulting his tarot card reader first. Flash-forward to 2017 and designers are still looking to the heavens for inspiration. Following in Mr. Dior’s footsteps the French house, led by Maria Grazia Chiuri, referenced his superstition with tarot card imagery all beautifully embroidered in the most delicate of golden threads throughout the entire Spring 2017 collection. Gucci on the other hand, fell under the spell of the supernatural with fairy-tale chiffon dresses and silk foulards heavily peppered with graphic renditions of the famous tarot graphics of the chariot and emperor.

Arab culture has always been one to celebrate superstition. Think evil eye, Hand of Fatima and countless talismans that have sprouted from the region. Egyptian Jeweler Azza Fahmy has made a name for herself and a cult following internationally from such symbols. She has spent over 45 years weaving these motifs and cultural beliefs into beautiful and mesmerizing pendants, necklaces and earrings.

Summon the powers and bring in a bit of mysticism into summer with the fashion desk’s edit on the trend:
