Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman and Chief Executive of Condé Nast International, was granted an honorary fellowship from Shenkar College on Wednesday in a ceremony at the institution, which is widely recognized as one of the leading fashion colleges in the world. The college honored him for his achievements and contribution to the fashion and publishing industries.

Newhouse served as a keynote speaker at the event, delivering a talk on the future of media. He described the growth of video on social platforms as the fastest moving media trend today and predicted further disruption among the major media platforms. He reported on the huge investment and effort Condé Nast is making to position its brands, particularly Vogue, on every platform in every major market.

The school has a history of recognizing fashion luminaries. Past recipients of honorary fellowships include Angela Ahrendts, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Donna Karan, and Suzy Menkes.

Also honored with fellowships Wednesday at the college’s International Board of Governors Annual Event were the designer Sir John Sorrell and Jeff Pulver, VolP pioneer, communications visionary, and entrepreneur.

Shenkar College of Art, Design, and Engineering was founded in 1970 as the College for Fashion and Textile Technology, with the goal of preparing skilled professionals, as well as providing the country with advanced research and development services. Its Fashion Design Department is internationally ranked today, with Business of Fashion recently listing it among the top 10 in the world. Alber Elbaz is a graduate, while Roberto Cavalli and Diane von Furstenberg are among those who have recruited its talent.
