Shanina Shaik’s Victoria’s Secret Training Leaves Her in Pain

She’s gearing up to storm the Victoria’s Secret catwalk after a two-year hiatus, but it appears to be a painful return to the runway for Shanina Shaik – quite literally. The part-Saudi supermodel this week revealed that her training for the iconic show, which will be filmed in New York next month, has resulted in an injury. The 27-year-old shared several Instagram stories over the weekend with her 1.3 million followers that showed her arm cradled in a sling. “I trained too hard,” the Australian-raised star captioned one, adding: “I’ll be ok though.” Shaik also shared a clip as she walked on a treadmill, arm bound, telling her fans “she’s not gonna stop, she’s gonna keep working out.”

It’s not known exactly how the model sustained the injury, but it seems unlikely to hold her back from taking part in the Victoria’s Secret show. Shaik has even been training in Mykonos, where she’s been living in recent weeks as she films scenes for Greed, a British comedy film about the world of the super-rich. Directed by Michael Winterbottom, the filmmaker behind Angelina Jolie‘s A Mighty Heart and The Trip, the satirical movie also stars Australian actor Isla Fisher, British comedian Steve Coogan, and David Mitchell. It is unknown what part Shaik will play in the film, in which Coogan stars as a retail billionaire and Fisher as his wife, “the only person who truly understands him and all his complexities”, according to Deadline.

Also walking in this year’s Victoria’s Secret show are models including Winnie Harlow, Barbara Palvin, and Cindy Bruna, with half-Palestinian catwalk star Bella Hadid also confirmed for the schedule. Making her debut on the runway for 2018 will be newcomer Kelsey Merritt, who will become the first Filipino to walk in the Victoria’s Secret show when she steps foot on the catwalk. “What an honor it is,” the model posted on Instagram after the news was revealed. “Thank you for believing in me and being there for me throughout this journey.”
