Statement sleeves and a high ponytail were the highlights of Selena Gomez‘s look for the 2023 Golden Globes on Tuesday. The singer and actor, nominated for her hit Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, made her first-ever attendance at the awards and chose Valentino couture for the special occasion.

Styled by Kate Young, Gomez’s gown was picked from the Italian fashion house’s Fall/Winter 22/23 collection and stood out in a deep shade of aubergine while most stars appeared in toned-down hues. The rich velvet number went all out with a strapless neckline, exaggerated puff sleeves, and a floor-grazing train, making it the ideal look for the return of the glamorous Golden Globes.

Balancing it out with a touch of playfulness was the star’s sky-high ponytail with a slight lift at the crown, created by hairstylist Marissa Marino. As for her glam for the evening, it embraced subtle hues with blushed cheeks and a nude pout by celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo. Black platform heels by Santoni and glittering diamond earrings and rings by De Beers completed her ensemble.

Gomez was joined by her half-sister Gracie Teefey, and posed adorably on the red carpet together. Given that it was the 30-year-old’s first Golden Globe nomination, the actor decided to have her half-sister Gracie Teefey join her on the red carpet. After receiving the news of the nomination, Gomez had taken to TikTok to share a throwback to an old interview, where she was asked if she would want a Grammy of her own one day. However, she replied, “I think it would be an honor, of course. But I’m more of a Golden Globe or Oscar girl so—it would be nice.”
