Regional Designers Made a Statement on this Red Carpet

The Ocean’s 8 premiere in New York City on Tuesday was a star-studded affair, drawing in a crowd that included Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima, and the heist movie’s all-female cast, who brought their fashion A-game to the red carpet of Alice Tull Hall.

Sandra Bullock, who plays Debbie, the estranged sister of Danny Ocean (portrayed in the previous trilogy by George Clooney), chose a creation by an Arab designer for the occasion. This cumulated in a sleeveless, embroidered custom Elie Saab couture gown with ostrich-feather trimming. Also finding favor in regional talent was Awkwafina, who opted for an all-white Reem Acra ensemble, which she accessorized with Guiseppe Zanotti heels and Hueb jewelry. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway evoked sophisticated glamour wearing a floor-trailing Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown with exposed shoulders.

As always, fashion rule-breaker Rihanna, who plays a hacker named Nine Ball in the movie, brought a prerequisite drama to the red carpet by way of a ruffled, purple-colored creation signed Givenchy that matched her aubergine pout, acrylic nails, and eyeshadow. Meanwhile, Helena Bonham Carter kept things simple with a black, perfectly-tailored Vivienne Westwood dress.

Cate Blanchett‘s press tour wardrobe consisted of nothing but suiting in all of its different takes, and for the premiere of the Gary Ross-directed film, the Australian actress continued her sartorial streak by wearing a colorful, heavily-embellished Missoni suit. Sarah Paulson chose a lime green, fringed Prada gown and Mindy Kaling, who welcomed a baby girl in February, sported a black, shimmering frock with a floor-trailing train by Prabal Gurung.

Other stars in attendance included supermodels Cindy Bruna in Balmain and Liu Wen wearing Jason Wu.
