Sarah Burton’s appointment will make her the eighth designer to serve in this role since Givenchy was founded in 1952, and only the second female to do so. After spending her entire career so far at Alexander McQueen, Burton’s shift will begin with a meeting with Givenchy’s atelier members this week at Avenue George V as per tradition. The move is special importance as it also sees the designer following the path of late Lee Alexander McQueen, who also designed for Givenchy between 1996 and 2001.

“Sarah Burton is an exceptional creative talent whose work I have passionately followed for many years. I am very glad that she is joining Givenchy today,” shared Sidney Toledano, chairman of the Givenchy board, shared a statement that was first shared with WWD. “Her unique vision and approach to fashion will be invaluable to this iconic maison, known for its audacity and haute couture. I am convinced that her creative leadership will contribute to the future success and international standing of the maison.” Burton will present her first collection for the fashion house at the March 2025 edition of Paris Fashion Week.
