As always, February seems to come and go in a blink of an eye with a flurry of fashion weeks in New York, London, and Milan welcoming the industry’s finest to debuts of the world’s most illustrious brands Fall/Winter 20 collections. Wrapping up the month-long sartorial whirlwind is none other than Paris Fashion Week in a series of shows that are set to showcase what next trends will be à la mode this season.

To get the ball rolling, Yves Saint Laurent will be closing the first full day of presentations from France’s finest houses today, February 25. Although no information about the new designs have been released except a cryptic close-up of a heart-shaped earring posted on creative director Anthony Vaccarello‘s Instagram account, we are expecting yet another show steeped in the “dark romanticism” that lies at the root of each collection.

A few years after accepting the prestigious position in April 2016, Vaccarello revealed the advice he received from Yves Saint Laurent co-founder, Pierre Bergé, to Vogue Arabia: “Do not copy Yves. Create your own vision of Yves Saint Laurent, and then follow it.”

Clearly keeping this in mind with each passing season, Vaccarello has managed to walk the fine line between maintaining the brand’s unquestionable legacy and infusing his own interpretations of the modern Saint Laurent woman. “To me, the attitude of a Saint Laurent woman is about being confident, real, and smart,” he shared previously. “She is free to express herself. She can wear a man’s bomber jacket or a short skirt. She is fearless in her choices, no matter what they are.”

A balancing act that takes special finesse, Vaccarello often combines typically feminine motifs on reimagined masculine silhouettes for sleek and subtle pieces that exude confidence and prepare the wearer for an elegant night out. The previous SS20 presentation in Paris interspersed bohemian dresses with signature black blazers before featuring a finale with none other than legendary supermodel Naomi Campbell strutting down the runway in a statement sequin suit that sparkled almost as brightly as the illuminated Eiffel Tower backdrop. Once again heading to La Fontaine du Trocadéro this evening for an unforgettable venue amidst at the foot of Paris’ iconic landmark, we look forward to seeing how the next chapter develops Vaccarello’s “ongoing story” of Yves Saint Laurent.

Watch the Winter 20 show live here today February, 25 at 8 pm Paris time (11 pm UAE/10 pm KSA).
