Colette in Paris sits amongst the ranks of high-end concept stores such as 10 Corso Como that opened in Milan in 1990 and London’s Dover Street Market that launched in 2003. This year, the luxury Parisian store announced suddenly that it will close its doors at the end of 2017. Rather than fizzle out, the multi-brand department store is set to go out with a bang.
The final collaboration will be with the maison of Saint Laurent. From November 27th to December 20th, the leading label will takeover the first floor of Colette, offering up a small curation of its Spring 2018 collection, and retailing some limited edition pieces to mark its residency. Saint Laurent has cultivated an impressive roster of brands to cross-collaborate for the Colette pop-up: from Polaroid produced images to Bang & Olufsen’s special edition speaker, and a black Vespa to boot.
In July 2017, Business of Fashion reported that Saint Laurent is in talks with Colette to take over its Rue Saint-Honoré location. In which case, the final collaboration is a touch of genius, a passing of the baton (or set of Saint Laurent X Colette headphones) so to speak . “Negotiations are under way with Saint Laurent and we would be proud to have a brand with such a history, with whom we have frequently collaborated, taking over our address,” the statement read. “We are happy of the serious interest expressed by Saint Laurent in this project, and it could also represent a very good opportunity for our employees.”
If you needed another reason to visit the Parisian capital, then here it is! Bon voyage.
