With a customer-focused approach to running a fashion maison, Saiid Kobeisy‘s business model is simple: create jaw-dropping couture gowns each season that conjure up a collective narrative. Last season we were transported to ‘Whispers of the Sea’, a nautical adventure that brought Atlantis and ocean color scenes to floor-grazing gowns.
For Spring 2018, Kobeisy looks to the Orient in ‘Tales from the East’. “The collection is made for the modern lady who embodies timeless femininity, while fearlessly strutting down her own path and effortlessly turning heads,” Kobeisy tells Vogue.me “The cuts are elegant yet bold; and the styles are full of romance, empowering every woman to reflect her true inner strength and passion for life.” Expect dragon motifs etched in shimmering beads and sequins, Manchurian Cranes featured on silks, and feather-weight appliqué blossoms decorating wafer-thin fabrics. And, of course, his design signature: exaggerated gowns that command their own zip code. “Structured silhouettes are lightened with soft touches of delicate floral embellishments,” adds Kobeisy. “While sheer silhouettes are dripped in intricate and detailed beading and embroidery.”
The Lebanese brand first launched in 2002 with its debut atelier opening in Beirut, today it has over fifty points of sale globally, including stores in Beirut, Dubai, Kuwait, Michigan, and LA. Not to forget a freshly-launched website that enjoyed a makeover last Fall 2017. Spanning bridal, ready-to-wear, and couture, Kobeisy voluminous designs have found fans across the Far East, Middle East, and West. The unifying element that makes his brand chimes with is simple but far from easy to execute: glamour. It’s a woman’s favorite thing, no matter what part of the planet you are from. “The luxury and craftsmanship that it encompasses, each and every piece is a depiction of Middle Eastern women’s love and appreciation for art and fashion,” the Lebanese designer tells Vogue.
As 2018 unravels, the creativity emanating from his Beirut atelier is clearly in full flow. In no less than sixteen years, this brand has flourished with experience and grown with the digital times too. A quarter of a million Instagram followers can testify to that. The in-house mantra clearly works: “Never follow; always lead. I believe that fashion is identity and that emerging designers should aim to build a strong and memorable signature,” reflects Kobeisy. “As pioneers of the fashion industry, our duty is to use this platform to inspire and influence a generation of innovative visionaries.” The question is, what will be the Kobeisy couture theme for Fall 2018?
