“I’m a firm believer that you should never take life too seriously, and that things should always be taken with a pinch of salt,” Rula Galayini tells Vogue.me at an exclusive preview of her Spring 2018 offering. In an ongoing dialogue with the world, via the medium of natty accessories, the house of Galayini delivers a ladylike collection with a twist for the new season. Spring 2018 at Galayini “can best be summarized with a quote by Pablo Picasso, ‘It takes a very long time to become young.’”

Geometric designs with art deco overtures punctuate a lineup of handbags that predominantly feature a top handle. A departure from the designer’s style signature – the photogenic evening clutch – this collection champions the everyday bag. “There is certainly an intentional element of maturity inherent to the overall bag silhouettes, while the hardware cutouts and irregular color paneling are meant to symbolize a ‘young at heart’ sentiment,” Galayini says. The brand’s DNA has been purposefully “toned down a notch or too” here. Granted, fashion introverts would find the bold purple and cherry red colors at the edge of their comfort zone. The designer’s loyal customers will be pleased to have more options for day.

The Dubai-based brand is proud of its Middle Eastern roots, being manufactured in Beirut and designed by Galayini, who has Lebanese roots. The accessories are stocked on four continents in more than 30 countries. A DDFC/Vogue Fashion Prize 2016 finalist, Galayini has just debuted her designs on the Chinese market, and shows no signs of dialing down her ambition. “Being a ‘made in the Middle East’ brand and contributing to local economies are missions close to our heart,” adds the designer, who is set to launch her new Spring 2018 collection in stores and online on February 7.

“Accessories are an impactful means to giving your wardrobe a sense of renewal.”

As the world speaks evermore about the empowerment of women and the celebration of strong unsung heroes, this collection sits nicely in the cultural blend of right-here-right-now. These bags are for women who mean business but have their tongue nestled in cheek. “How bold should I go today?” she might ask her morning mirror. “Accessories are great items to style outfits in a number of ways, allowing women to get the most out of their wardrobe,” Galayini says. Choices, choices are something accessories brands should embolden women with. Well, you have it here.

So what’s new and next for the brand’s expansion in 2018? “We’re launching a capsule collection of small leather goods, including credit card holders, wallets, and vibrant bag straps,” says Galayini. “The items are great add-ons to the Rula Galayini handbags, but also make great stand-alone gifts. Throughout 2018, we will continue to create more extension lines, namely fashion jewelry and shoes.” More is more, after all.

Rula Galayini is available at Galeries Lafayette and Robinsons in Dubai; Tryano in Abu Dhabi; Bloomingdale’s in Kuwait; Harvey Nichols in Riyadh; and Saks 5th Avenue in Bahrain. The Spring 2018 collection is available from February 7.
