Pink garden rose sunglasses are in, serving to confirm that life is to be lived looking through rose tinted glasses after all. Now is the time to expand your armory of sunglasses to reflect the new wave of rosy-hued shades. Consider Michael Kors’ futureproof aviators, Gucci’s aristo-geek shades, Anya Hindmarch’s orb-like pink sunglasses, and Chalayan’s sporty frames all featured rose-colored lenses in different levels of saturated color. Alessandro Michele sent out clear signals that optics are in from his first collection at the helm of Gucci, where 35 out of 76 models wore the trend at the spring show. His take on the rose-tinted eyewear is (unsurprisingly) oversized, bejewelled with diamante, and inbuilt with ‘70s retrospective decadence. The trend, however, bubbled up from the streets before the collections cemented its footing.
Bella Hadid has been tapping into the look throughout 2016, wearing oversized reflectives from her favored brands Quay Australia, Givenchy or Fendi in pink colors, often en route to her LA gym. Meanwhile, Olivia Palermo kickstarted the year with a new line for her collaboration with sunglasses brand Westward Leaning, featuring rosy lenses in mirror reflections. The front row regular wore them to fall and spring fashion months, stirring the look into the street style soup.
Next up on the trend timeline, Rihanna arrived at the Dior Spring 2017 show wearing the brand’s rose-tinted Dior Reflected shades, confirming that the look had survived the year, with further style mileage on and off the runways.
Eyewear and opticals are big business, too. Victoria Beckham launched her sunglasses line in 2009, followed by optics in 2013, in collaboration with Cutler & Gross. It’s not a spend that’s confined to the summer seasons either; twelve months a year sunglasses hold a place on the ridge of our noses, oscillating with sartorial ease between chubby fur coats, or silk longline dresses on balmy evenings. No wonder e-tailers Net-a-Porter, Farfetch, and Matches consistently have this accessories department well stocked.
As the Arab league’s fashion thermostat requires a pair of sunglasses perpetually to hand (even in the UAE winter), the only ones to wear now are rosy.
