Her latest collection Hampton Feels draws on this vibe enriching it with inspiration from old Hollywood. With feminine silhouettes and a palette perfect for the season ahead, the designer gives us an exclusive look at the collection.
How did you get into the world of fashion?
I have always been working in fashion it feels. It began in high school in Rome where I interned at a fashion magazine once a week after school. Moving to New York I worked as an assistant buyer at Henry Bendel whilst I was studying fashion styling at FIT. I also worked on styling projects with several photographers and also styled models during NYFW.
What made you take the leap to launch Romy Collection?
I designed a few pieces here and there that friends and family members loved and bought from me. Then I created a few more pieces for a pop up which sold out. My friend Donna Hourani really encouraged me to go for it as it’s something I love and obsess over.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration everywhere. A song, music is so inspiring to me. An artist. An old black and white picture. Vintage pieces. I always imagine where that woman was going, what was she feeling, who was she?
How did you come up with all of the different silhouettes?
I wanted long dresses and long skirts. I wanted everything to move. The pieces really flow, which I love. I find it so feminine. I brought back some of my best sellers. The Mariana in a gorgeous yellow vintage shade and the Pamela in a pale yellow. I also did light airy pants that also feel easy and super feminine. I love to play with lightness. I don’t like when pieces feel heavy on the body.
What’s next for Romy Collection?
I’ve already started working on my next collection. I don’t stop! I get inspired and I start working on mood boards, and color stories.
