In 1992, Reem Acra staged a fashion show at the University of Beirut with a mere 10 days to prepare – yet 2 000 students witnessed her very first runway collection. This season marks the Lebanese designer’s 20th anniversary, with the maison leading the charge at fashion week and on the red carpet. As Vogue Arabia highlights the fashion career of Acra in the June issue, Vogue.me takes a retrospective look at the evolution of this celebrated Arab brand.

Acra initially launched her brand as a bridal line after designing a friend’s wedding dress in 1997. Along with expanding her highly successful brand to include evening wear and ready-to-wear, Acra has established herself as the Arab world’s most internationally renowned female designer, joining ranks with Lebanese couturiers Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab. Acra’s roster of loyal clients includes Mary J. Blige, Taylor Swift, and the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, to name but a few.

Kristen Stewart made her red carpet appearance at the 2013 Oscars wearing a sleeveless, tulle-accented dress, which she accessorized with a set of crutches. The dress certainly acted as a suitable distraction from the A-lister’s broken leg. Beyoncé, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, and Angelina Jolie also make up the designer’s star-studded list of fans who favor her romantic, feminine designs for red carpet appearances. As the industry continues to witness the rise of the designer’s fashion house, we look back at our favorite runway moments from the Reem Acra archives.
