Last year, in a conversation with Vogue Arabia Princess Nourah Al Faisal stated, “The future of Saudi fashion is abundant and full of potential.” Now the jewelry designer and founder of Nuun Jewels has proven her own words as she collaborates with British heritage brand Asprey.
The exciting partnership entails reimagining the iconic 1781 Pochette from Asprey with a distinct Saudi flair. Five colorful interpretations of the original bag form a highly exclusive capsule collection that shows the best of both brands. Inspired by different parts of Saudi Arabia each design pays homage to iconic architectural and sartorial motifs while incorporating the colors most associated with that region. Intricate embroidery, bold designs, and the highest level of craftsmanship remain the hallmarks of this exquisite collection.
“My intention with this collection was to represent the distinctiveness of five major regions in Saudi Arabia, showcasing the diversity, regional variations, and sheer beauty of our heritage. Each design meticulously weaves together the essence of a specific region, intertwining its colors, motifs, and embroidery techniques. By embracing and celebrating the diversity within our heritage, I aimed to create a visual narrative that instills a sense of pride and connection among individuals throughout the kingdom,” stated the royal.
Known for being highly committed to the preservation of Saudi cultural heritage it is no surprise that the Princess is a part of this project. As Chief Executive Officer of Art of Heritage, a socially responsible organization focused on conserving Saudi heritage and culture, she oversees an archive featuring over 57 000 artifacts ranging from costumes to textiles and jewelry to photographs. “To ensure authenticity and accuracy, I extensively referenced the Art of Heritage Collection Archive, which served as a valuable resource for the patterns used in my designs,” shared Al Faisal.
For Asprey, the collaboration represents a desire to collaborate with different creatives around the world. By imbuing the centuries-old legacy of the brand with contemporary sensibilities and regional creativity Asprey has ensured that staples such as the Pochette are re-interpreted in exciting ways. John Rigas, Asprey Chairman, states, “I’m very excited and honored by this first collaboration with Princess Nourah Al-Faisal.” He adds, “The collaboration is a perfect illustration of the brand’s relentless pursuit to achieve excellence and beauty through craftsmanship. Asprey will deepen its collaboration with Nuun with a capsule jewelry collection to launch in 2024, confirming its pioneering engagement in exciting creative conversations worldwide.”
