Exclusive: Algerian Actor Bahia Haifi Gold Stars in Prada’s New Short Film

To celebrate the launch of its latest Cahier handbag, Prada has teamed up with acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Hope to create a trio of short films. The cinematic project, entitled “The Delivery Man”, features three circa-60-second films, all of which star Academy Award-winning actor JK Simmons as the enigmatic protagonist (the “delivery man”). The Whiplash star plays alongside Algerian actress Bahia Haifi Gold, who is best known for her roles in Dmus (2015) and Colony (2016). French actress Pom Klementieff and American Honey star (and Prada FROW fixture) Sasha Lane also feature in the films.

The short films are titled Midnight Request, Woman’s Best Friend, and Priorities of Love respectively, and unfold in three contrasting settings including a nightclub, a Beverly Hills mansion, and the delivery man’s own home. Playful and subversive, each short narrative explores themes of family, home, and love. Other constants in the film, aside from Simmons’ character, is the appearance of the Cahier handbag. The distinguishable, brass-bound, calfskin bag — in all its different styles and color combinations (blue/black, yellow/black, white/black) — serves as a gift throughout the shorts.

This isn’t the first time Prada has dabbled in cinema, either. The Italian brand has previously been behind fashion films directed by the likes of Wes Anderson, Autumn de Wilde, and David O. Russell. Meanwhile, the clips recall Prada’s little sister Miu Miu‘s “Women’s Tales”, a short-film series launched by the Italian fashion house in 2011. Last month, Miu Miu tasked selected directors with investigating vanity and femininity in the 21st century with Haifaa Al Mansour premiering The Wedding Singer during the 2018 Venice Film Festival. The Saudi director’s piece debuted alongside Hello Apartment, actress Dakota Fanning‘s directorial debut, marking the 15th and 16th commissioned creations by Miu Miu.

Watch the visually-arresting first episode of “The Delivery Man” exclusively on Vogue Arabia, and stay tuned for the second and third episodes to be unveiled on October 13 and 15 on, respectively.
