For seasons, Prada has been one of the highlights of fashion week. Known for its technical influences, the house always manages to march to a fashion-forward beat. Miuccia Prada’s futuristic vision for Spring 2018 menswear moved to technical outerwear, resulting in a collection of high-waisted pants, Velcro sneakers, knee-high socks, and so-wearable bum bags.
Also on the menu were comic-printed blousons illustrated by James Jean and Belgian graphic artist Ollie Schrauwen, who were also responsible for the drawings on the showspace walls and floor. “We asked them to do stories that wouldn’t be too superhero, but to push the human point,” Miuccia explained to Vogue Runway’s Luke Leitch.
The highlights of the collection included bold jumpsuits in blood-red and powder-blue, described by Miuccia as her latest obsession. Prada’s new-season sartorial approach was to divide the onesies with belts and bum bags, which gave the items a two-piece feel while retaining the charm and point-of-difference of a one-piece. The Spring 2018 Prada onesie may prove to be as comfortable as your traditional thobe but one must admit that it’s a trend that needs to be approached with due consideration. The all-in-one may be classed as a high-maintenance key piece to add to your wardrobe; it will certainly cut a new silhouette.
