Designers Shaikha Noor Rashid Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Mohammed Al Khalifa are well adept at hitting the refresh button on their fashion house Noon by Noor to keep up with the fashion treadmill of seasonal collections. We’ve seen some of the major fashion houses join the Resort showcase for the first time (Resort 2018 was Miuccia Prada’s first), and others disrupt the conservative cycle of shows and collections with a see-now-buy-now business model (Arwa Al Banawi, Tommy Hilfiger) or bold next-gen thinking like Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, who takes advantage of pre-collection timing to keep his brand in the spotlight. Here we have Bahrain-based fashion brand Noon by Noor – who have been showing at New York Fashion Week since February 2012, after its launch in 2011 – teasing out its Resort 2018 collection, aimed at the jet-setting woman who needs a fuss-free yet on-trend capsule wardrobe.
The design duo looked to the local influences of Bahrain to inform its breezy Resort 2018 line. In a Vogue preview, we see feminine necklines and fluid movements of fabric emphasized by bang-on-the-moment ruffles. Clover, carbon black, and paper white form the base color palette, with a smattering of ladybirds taking over strapless numbers – perfect packing items for a private retreat.
The Bahraini rosebud features across tailored pieces in cotton and linen, making the collection patriotic and practical for the Middle East’s punishingly high heat. Here we see hints of the direction the brand will go in for its Spring 2018 show, that is expected to join the schedule at New York Fashion Week in September.
