New York Fashion Week is off to a triumphant start courtesy of Noon by Noor. The Bahraini-based brand ushered in the Spring 2019 season with a Middle East-inspired runway show that paid homage to the label’s founding designers Shaikha Noor Rashid Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Mohammed Al Khalifa’s Bahraini roots. The womenswear designers presented the brand’s new offering in front of an A-list front row that included Lea Michele, Crystal Reed, and Camilla Belle (all dressed in Noon by Noor, of course.)
The cousins — who have been showing at New York Fashion Week since February 2012 – sent out a line-up of mega-models, including show-closer Blanca Padilla, Aira Ferreira, and Marjan Jonkman. Each wore feminine designs in a muted color palette inspired by the Gulf country’s landscape of sunsets, sand, and sea, which comprised of beige, ivory, peach, and powder blue. The offering was punctuated with cozy crewnecks, some imprinted with the word “life” in Arabic, button-downs neatly tucked into billowing tea-length skirts, and expertly tailored separates that featured blue and white nautical stripes. While the cousins dialed down on their signature embellishments and prints, smatterings of palm leaf motifs appeared on some of the dresses and blouses. A high was a white, airy dress with loose, sheer organza sleeves that harked to carefree summer days.
The cousins, who founded the label in 2011, often reference the Kingdom of Bahrain when it comes to their designs. Speaking to Vogue.me, the design duo previously admitted, “our country, Bahrain, will always serve as the backbone for our inspiration. Whether through the influences of nature, history, or tradition, we exhibit a modern take on these elements, and present it to the global market with timeless appeal.”
