His designs have dazzled the front row and Hollywood stars alike since he first launched his eponymous label – and now you can pore over the craftsmanship that has won Zuhair Murad his legion of fans. The Lebanese designer is taking part in a current exhibition at the Museum of Fashion and Lace, found in Calais, France.
A selection of the Ras Baalbek-born creative’s pieces are on display as part of “Haute Dentelle”, a showcase of contemporary, couture lace-work and its inclusion on the catwalks in recent years. Murad is one of a number of labels taking part, with Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Maison Margiela, and Schiaparelli among those with pieces on display. Overall, the exhibition showcases more than 60 designs from haute couture and prêt-à-porter collections, such as this intricately ruffled and crystal-embellished midi from Murad’s Fall 2017 Couture line.
The exhibition explores the use of both hand-woven techniques and machine-crafted techniques, with many an elaborate gown on display, each revealing the myriad ways that lace can be used to accentuate a creation. “Haute Dentelle” also gives visitors insight into how the fabric is created, as well as how lace houses and fashion maisons collaborate on collections. The exhibition, curated by Sylvie Marot with many of the pieces on public display for the first time, will run until January 6, 2019. The Museum of Lace and Fashion has previously hosted exhibitions dedicated to Hubert de Givenchy, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Anne Valérie Hash, and Iris van Herpen.
