When we said last month that Dsquared2 might just have created the ugly shoe to end all ugly shoes, we may have been a little premature. For this week, Vetements sent down its Spring 2019 runway a sneaker so viciously out there, that it comes with its own line of defense. The French label’s head designer, Demna Gvasalia, debuted his latest collaboration with sportswear giant Reebok, one that fused together a punk aesthetic with the best that dad-core has to offer. Featuring mesh paneling, dashes of neon, and a touch of a graffiti, the intentionally distressed shoes made quite the statement with a smattering of XL spikes. While they might cause injury on packed public transport (although they would offer a great deterrent to fellow revelers in packed crowds), the eclectic Vetements x Reebok sneakers certainly created a talking point during Couture Week.

Georgian designer Gvasalia revealed at the show that the collection was inspired by civil war in his home nation. “It was like dressing a documentary of my life,” he told US Vogue. “I dedicated this collection to Georgia, the Georgia where my brother Guram and I grew up together in the ’90s, and the war that happened where we lived.”
