American superstar Mariah Carey kicked off the one-year countdown to Expo 2020 Dubai on Sunday evening. At the Burj Park, the Honey hitmaker took the stage to serenade a cheering crowd with her powerhouse vocals.

For the ‘One Year to Go’ concert, the songstress was dressed in a dazzling creation by Dubai-based label Amato Couture. The golden gown was fully-embedded with Swarovski crystals and featured hand-embroidered intricate patterns. This is not the first time that Carey wore the label’s couture creation. She was seen in Cannes Film Festival this year with a black sequence tailor-made gown followed by her kick-off ‘Caution World Tour’ concert in Dublin, Ireland.

The special free concert was one of the seven events held across all emirates to bring the entire country together in counting down the days till the expo, which is set to be the “World’s Greatest Show.” The Grammy-award winning singer got on stage shortly after a fireworks display and laser light show took place on the Burj Khalifa at exactly 8.20pm. Carey opened her concert with A No No, the hit single from her recent album Caution. She later had the crowd singing along to Dream Lover, and other fan-favorite tunes like Let It Happen and I’ll Be There.

“Thank you to all of you in every emirate for being part of the One Year to Go celebrations. It’s going to be the World’s Greatest Show so be sure to be there next year,” she said to the audience. Surprising her fans, the mother-of-two was also joined on stage by her eight-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe who sang along to the chorus of their mother’s song Always Be My Baby.

Emirati singer and Expo 2020 ambassador Hussain Al Jassmi also took the stage in front of the eager fans to perform his hit songs like Ana Shaki, Ahibak and Bushret Khair.

The highly-anticipated Expo 2020 will open its doors to the public on October 20, 2020, and run‪ until April 10, 2021.
